Dressing for Success

So you scored an interview, and now you’re running around like the proverbial chicken with its head cut off wondering what to wear – never fear! Even for fashion-lovers, you can dress appropriately for an interview and still showcase your personal style.
You don’t have to look like a fashion dud when being interviewed, but you definitely can’t look like a fashion don’t, either (Hint: leave the stilettos at home, please!)
Here are a few simple tips to help you get past the interview stage looking fashionably polished.
If you doubt your ability to dress professionally during the interview, there’s nothing wrong with wearing a traditional skirt or pant suit. You can even wear a fitted blazer over a button-down shirt and slacks, if that’s your thing.
Once you’ve determined your interview outfit, you need to make the rest of your appearance look professional too. Keep the rest of your appearance understated and low-key. What does this mean?
Well, for starters, avoid trying out a new hair color or style the day before your interview. If it turns out looking like the Bride of Frankenstein, that’s not exactly a great first impression!
Your hairstyle should look neat and polished, and you should keep your makeup to a minimum (keep the dark eye makeup and crimson lipstick for after work!) Add a basic pair of pump heels or dress shoes, but leave the strappy sling backs in your closet.
While the right accessories can make or break an outfit, when you are heading out for an interview try to keep your jewelry low-key. If you normally wear bold, chunky jewelry leave it at home and don a pair of simple stud earrings or a delicate necklace. It will add just the right amount of zing to your office attire, without looking overdone.
Additionally ladies, you might want to avoid perfume altogether – the last thing you want to do is walk into the office smelling like the entire perfume counter at Macy’s!
By keeping your look fresh and polished, you can still be fashionable and make a great first impression at the same time. Dressing for an interview doesn’t have to be difficult when you have these tips to help get you through.
Good luck!
