Perfume- You Can Have Too Much of a Good Thing

I love getting ready to go out for a night on the town – and I usually spritz on a bit of perfume before walking out the door. But how much is TOO much?

Fragrance can be a wonderful thing, when used in moderation. The key is finding the right balance between not enough and an overdose.

If you walk into work smelling like the entire perfume section of Nordstrom’s, there’s a problem!

In order to wear perfume without overdoing it, you need to understand your body chemistry and know what scents smell good on you. Common sense prevails here, as well – you should know when you’ve sprayed too much! While perfume can make you feel good about yourself, too much fragrance can have people running for the exits just to get away from you.

Only those people who get in close contact with you should be able to smell your perfume. If people three or four feet away can smell it, you’ve put too much on.

If you tend to wear the same fragrance on a daily basis, your sense of smell gets used to the fragrance and you won’t be able to smell it as strongly anymore. This can lead to a major perfume overdose.

Less IS more!
If you insist on wearing fragrance, I recommend a few key pulse points to apply perfume to: the nape of your neck, behind your knees, your wrist, behind your ears and in between your cleavage. You can spray all your pulse points (lightly, please!) or just a few – the choice is yours.

In order to wear perfume without overdoing it, you should also choose the right fragrance based on the environment you’re in and your body chemistry. If you work in an office all day, choose light scents – think a breezy floral, citrus or green-smelling fragrance. Heavy perfumes are too much for an office environment and should be used for after-hours events.

Ultimately, the type of perfume you wear is totally up to you – your personal scent preferences, your body chemistry and the type of environment you’ll be in. Just remember that in order to wear perfume without overdoing it, use it sparingly!

Do you really want to be known as the walking perfume bottle at work?
